What is Traditional Marketing?

Traditional Marketing techniques have been tried and proven for years.  However, the over use and abuse of some methods could compromise your marketing campaign and its success.  Knowing when to use traditional Marketing techniques will determine the success or failure of your overall campaign. 
 
Lets face it, were in the 21st century and most companies are still using techniques for marketing, advertising and promoting their business that were used in the 70's, 80's and 90's.  How smart is this?  Well, to make an easy point, if someone you knew and loved kept wearing their clothes or hairstyle from the 70's, 80's and 90's wouldn't you want to tell them or show them the error of their ways?  I know I would.  So, you need to look at your marketing and promotions in the same light.  If you are doing the same things that have always been done, then what kind of results do you expect to get from them.   That's right...the same! 
 
Looking at what the here and now is will be critical in deciding what your marketing, advertising and promotions should include.  Now I am not saying that traditional marketing techniques don't belong anywhere in the marketing mix, what I am saying is that you must know which one to use, how to properly use them in todays economy and how much of your budget should be allocated to these techniques. 
 
One thing to consider when determing the effectiveness of traditional marketing techniques is that these methods were (at one point) state of the art or very creative.  However, after years of use and misuse most have become less effective and not as readily accepted by the public.  Also, determing and measuring results was less of a focus of traditional marketing techniques because - as they still are today - almost impossible to accurately determine the success of each initiative.  This is why we suggest that traditional marketing techniques still do have a place in every marketing campaign, however, the extent of how many and which techniques will depend on how well supported they are by the mix of modern advertising and marketing initiatives.
