Target Marketing

What is Target Marketing?

 
Are you sure you know who your customer is?  Are you sure your message is getting to them?  If you can't positively answer yes to these questions you may want to think about how effectively your marketing dollars are being spent. 
 
Target marketing is a critical aspect of marketing your company or product.  If you do not fully understand why your current or potential customers are purchasing your product or service you are not reaching your full revenue potentials. 
 
Many times business owners make assumptions based on experience or history to determine who their customers are, why customers buy their product or service or how they make the decision to choose your product or service over your competitors.  This is a costly assumption and one that is all to often the reality of business today.  How can any company today either get started, look to expand or intelligently "improve" their product or service offerings without understanding who their true target market is and what value that customer sees in the product or service? 
 
With target marketing you first find out who your true customer base is and who your true potential customer base is.  Upon the completion of this process you are going to "get into their heads" so that you better understand what motivates and inspires them to purchase your product or service.  Once you have removed all of your assumptions from this data and have replaced it with data that is accurate and meaningful you can than begin the process of establishing a plan that will effectively target your customers (current and potential) and provide them with the messages that best motivate them to take action.  If you base all of your marketing actions on strategic and targeted marketing decision you will quickly realize one of 2 things: 
1) You will have to spend less money to attract more business and higher revenues.
2) Or you will realize that in order to achieve your revenue goals you may not have to spend as much money on your marketing efforts.
 
It is quite common that upon the completion of one of our target marketing assessment studies, how many businesses find themselves astonished by the mistakes they had been making for years.  They have found that they have been buying or placing media in publications, on radio stations, television spot etc that only target a very small percentage of their desired clients.  In return they also realize that they had rejected opportunities in other media solutions that represent a substantial portion of their "true" client pool.  As well, one very upsetting discovery is when a company realizes that their new and creative media messages have actually been offending or turning away their "true" client potential.  It is a grizzly discovery to find out you have been spending money to scare away the customers you are trying to attract.
