How do you find customers?
As a result of completing a target market assessment you will be left with critical data that will help you effectively and affordably find customers.
When the phone calls slow down or the walk-in traffic begins to slow down it does not mean that they simply are not spending the money onyour type of products or services, because they most likely are! The problem is that they may not be doing it with you. Don't let your competition capitalize on what your business is not doing! Get out there, find customers and get your fair share of the revenue pie.
If you want to find customers you need to know:
1) Where they are (This can be taken in either a geographical sense, as in Ontario, or a physical location that you have researched guaranteed to find customers - example: If your product is sun tan lotion, there is a good possibility that you will find customers at the beach.)
2) What they do (What are your customers occupations? What are their hobbies?)
3) Why they do what they do (Is your target consumer's attitude work to live or live to work? Or is there another reason why your customers participate in certain activities, shop at certain stores, etc. that would help you to promote your product or service to them?)
4) How they do it (Find customers preference for being contacted - phone, text, email, etc.)
5) Why would they choose to do it with you (This is where your product should shine. what added value does your product or service provide that the competition does not.)
These are really pretty simple questions. However, getting the right answers to these questions can be much more complex than it may appear on the surface. Understanding what and why your customers do what they do and how your product or service fits into that mix can be tricky and will require some real in-depth analysis.
It is true that sometimes you may be successful without taking any of these aspects into consideration; however, all good things come to an end if you are not careful. Hopefully you are not a victim of customer ignorance.
Don't wait for the day the phone stops ringing or the customers stop coming through the door - find customers now and take action to secure your position in the marketplace that will ensure your ongoing success and security. It really is simple, if you know what your customers want, it is mucheasier to give it to them.
